Arizona Mesquite - Prosopis velutina

The Arizona Mesquite (Prosopis velutina) is a medium sized fast growing tree for landscapes and gardens. This is a sought after wood for fuel and the flavoring in BBQ. This species is the parent of most native hybridized varieties, and they are considered native. The leaves also have a velvet texture that isn't found in other Mesquite. This plant is very thorny, and the drop lots of litter, but are virtually bulletproof. There are many natural occurring crosses from this plant in nature and production.
