Krauter's Vesuvius Flowering Plum - Prunus cerasifera 'Krauter's Vesuvius'

The Krauter's Vesuvius Flowering Plum (Prunus cerasifera 'Krauter's Vesuvius') is a medium sized flowering tree for landscapes and gardens. This plant is grown for the burgundy foliage and delicate flower in spring. It is supposed to be fruitless, more drought tolerant and darker purple than other varieties. Flowering cherries are prone to winter kill from late freezes. Winter water is the best prevention. This was the first purple leaf plum in production (1880's) and there is uncertainty about it's heritage.
