Kwanzan Flowering Cherry - Prunus serrulata 'Kwanzan'

The Kwanzan Flowering Cherry (Prunus serrulata 'Kwanzan') is a medium sized flowering tree for landscapes and gardens. This variety is fruitless with double pink flowers in spring. The emergent leaves are a little burgundy. On 'Royal Burgundy' they stay that color all summer. It has great fall color and is probably the most planted of the species. Flowering cherries are prone to winter kill form late freezes. Winter water is the best prevention. There are a more varieties of 'Kwanzan' in production and it is often called 'Kanzan' as well.
