Canada Red Chokecherry - Prunus virginiana 'Canada Red'
The Canada Red Chokecherry (Prunus virginiana 'Canada Red') is a large shrub or flowering tree for flowering borders and gardens. This variety has leaves that emerge green and become progressively darker purple by the end of summer. It can be bought and grown as a tree or shrub. The tree form can develop many suckers and it requires frequent pruning. This variety is cultivated from 'Shubert'. There is argument as to how different they really are.
