Western Chokecherry - Prunus virginiana var. demissa

The Western Chokecherry (Prunus virginiana var. demissa) is a medium to large flowering shrub native to woodlands of the Western United States and often found tree form in gardens. This is a great naturalizing shrub for borders with reliable blooms, great fall color and a red to black berry the birds love. This can be difficult to maintain as a tree form due to splitting branches and suckering. There are more cultivars of this species in production.
