Purpleleaf Sandcherry - Prunus X cistena
The Purpleleaf Sandcherry (Prunus X cistena) is a medium sized flowering tree for landscapes and gardens. This plant is grown for it's burgundy foliage and delicate flower in spring. It is supposed to be fruitless, but may produce a very small berry similar to the wild cherry. Flowering cherries are prone to winter kill from late freezes. Winter water is the best prevention. This is a cultivated variety of Prunus cerasifera.
