Scarlet Firethorn - Pyracantha coccinea

The Scarlet Firethorn (Pyracantha coccinea) is a large broadleaf evergreen shrub ideal for borders and impervious hedges. This plant has a heavy spring flower show with brilliant berries that are more red than other species from late summer to early spring. The species is prone to rust, is extremely thorny and miserable to prune. This is a naturally occurring cultivated variety of Pyracantha speciosa.
