Capital Pear - Pyrus calleryana 'Capital'

The Capital Pear (Pyrus calleryana 'Capital') is a medium to large sized flowering tree for landscapes and gardens. This is the most common columnar form of the species. It is still prone to damage because it has a series of vertical branches and trunks. Dilligent pruning when young can make these very durable. Most Pears are prone to wind and ice damage and fall apart about the time they look good. They are also extremely invasive and are becoming a serious environmental threat in the Southeast. This plant is a cultivated variety of Pyrus calleryana. Photos from the parent and other varieties of the species will aid in identification.
