Chanticleer Pear - Pyrus calleryana 'Chanticleer'

The Chanticleer Pear (Pyrus calleryana 'Chanticleer') is a medium to large sized flowering tree for landscapes and gardens. This variety is narrower than Cleveland Select and has a tapered top making the least prone to damage of the Callery Pears. It also blooms last making it less likely to lose the blossoms to frost. Most Pears are prone to wind and ice damage and fall apart about the time they look good. They are also extremely invasive and are becoming a serious environmental threat in the Southeast. This plant is a cultivated variety of Pyrus calleryana. Photos from the parent and other varieties of the species will aid in identification.
