Plumleaf Azalea - Rhododendron prunifolium

The Plumleaf Azalea (Rhododendron prunifolium) is a large shrub or small flowering tree for gardens landscapes, and naturalizing. It is native to the extreme Southern Appalachians and very common on Lookout Mountain. This species is very similar to Rhododendron calendulacium in habit and flower type, but has a later and darker bloom. This plant can take full sun, but needs some shade in warmer climates. The native species is most common in production.
