Rugosa Rose - Rosa rugosa

The Rugosa Rose (Rosa rugosa) is a medium to large sized flowering deciduous shrub native to the Western Untied States. This shrub is a vigorous grower with nice flowers and vivid red or orange hips (berries). It also provides habitat for birds and other wildlife. This species can be prone to fungus that does not respond to treatment, but will not kill the plant. There are numerous varieties of this species in various colors, but it is the hip (seed) that distinguishes the species.
