Black Beauty™ Elderberry - Sambucus nigra 'Gerda'
The Black Beauty™ Elderberry (Sambucus nigra 'Gerda') is a large shrub or small tree for landscapes and gardens. The leaves on this variety emerge burgundy and turn almost black to offset the bright pink flowers. The berry is coveted for jam, pies, and wine but is rather nasty by itself. This cultivar can revert to the species which is an exotic invasive and should not be planted where it can escape.
