The Sassafras (Sassafras albidum) is a thicket forming deciduous tree native to the Eastern United States. This species has incredible fall color, a nice flower in spring and a graceful habit. This is definitely one of my favorites. It is also sought after for culinary use of the root. This tree spreads off suckers and does not transplant well. If you have it encourage it. The native species is most common in production.
