Coastal Redwood - Sequoia sempervirens

The Coastal Redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) is a huge pyramidal conifer native to a small region of the Pacific Coast that is planted by some gardeners for collection purposes. This is one of the great forest trees of the Pacific Coast and is now the most common large conifer in California State Parks. This plant does not do well in the east, and likes the coastal winds from the West. There are more cultivars of this species in production.
