Goldmound Spirea - Spiraea japonica 'Gold Mound'

The Goldmound Spirea (Spiraea japonica 'Gold Mound') is a small deciduous flowering shrub ideal for hedges, borders and commercial landscapes. This variety has persistent flowers and a naturally compact habit. Shearing of spent flowers will cause the plant to rebloom. It gets the name from the golden foliage that gets brighter with more light. Spent flowers allowed to go to seed can revert and become exotic invasive species in zones 6 and up. This is a cultivated variety of Spiraea japonica. The parent species is an exotic invasive species in much of the United States.
