Capitata Japanese Yew - Taxus cuspidata 'Capitata'

The Capitata Japanese Yew (Taxus cuspidata 'Capitata') is a pyramidal evergreen for landscapes and gardens. This variety is the gold standard for pyramidal Yews. It responds well to shearing or hand pruning and develops multiple leaders, but still holds up well to snow. Young plants require direct watering as rain and irrigation can shed off the outer shell leaving the root ball dry. The species as a whole is sensitive to overwatering. This is a cultivated variety of Taxus cuspidata. Photos of the parent species may help in identification.
