Hicks Hybrid Yew - Taxus X media 'Hicksii'

The Hicks Hybrid Yew (Taxus X media 'Hicksii') is a medium to large sized evergreen for landscapes and gardens. This variety is the most common columnar yew in production and gets wider than most others. Hybrid yews typically need well drained soil, are sensitive to overwatering and sun scald. Regular and proper pruning is required to keep the top of this plant from flaring and becoming vase shaped. Hybrid yews are typcally crossed between Taxus baccata and Taxus cuspidata varieties. Variations can be subtle, and photos of other Hybrid Yews may help in identification.
