Canadian Hemlock - Tsuga canadensis

The Canadian Hemlock (Tsuga canadensis) is a pyramidal coniferous tree native to the Eastern United States and used extensively in landscapes and gardens. This is the most shade tolerant species of needled evergreen and is great as a full sized tree but can be pruned and kept to 8 feet tall. The wooly adelgid (an insect) is ravaging the species in the Southern Appalachians. There are more cultivars of this species in production.
