Dutch Elm - Ulmus X hollandica

The Dutch Elm (Ulmus X hollandica) is a large upright arching shade tree that was once popular as a street tree in the United States. This is considered to be the most beautiful of the larger elms¦kind of like Typhoid Mary was. This plant is the original species responsible for the Dutch Elm disease, but some new species are listed as disease resistant. There are numerous cultivars of this hybrid in production most commonly bred between Ulmus minor and Ulmus carpinifolia.
