American Cranberry - Vaccinium macrocarpon

The American Cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon) is a deciduous shrub that is native to much of United States and is the Cranberry of commercial production. This species is a very vigorous mat forming plant with heavy fruit production. Fields are flooded to harvest because the berries float. The berries are very difficult to harvest without flooding due to the dense habit. There are more cultivars of this species in production.
