Blue Huckleberry - Vaccinium membranaceum

The Blue Huckleberry (Vaccinium membranaceum) is a deciduous shrub native to much of the United States found as a shrubby groundcover in hardwood forests. This species has great fall color and habit for woodland gardens. It is a very underutilized plant that produces a black edible berry. The berry is smaller than a blueberry, and a favorite of bears. There are more cultivars of this species in production.
