Mexican Fan Palm - Washingtonia robusta

The Mexican Fan Palm (Washingtonia robusta) is a large palm tree native to the Southwest ideal for landscapes, gardens, street trees and naturalizing. This is a more erect and almost whimsical Palm with the skyward reaching tunk. Despite numerous negatives in the Southeast, this is a great tree for more arid areas. The skirt is host for rodents and some areas require it removed by law. This plant is thorny, and the flowers are inconspicuous. In Hurricane areas the top heavy tree can be prone to damage. The native species is most common in production.
