Banana Yucca - Yucca baccata

The Banana Yucca (Yucca baccata) is a broadleaf evergreen shrub native to the Southwestern United States and ideal landscapes, gardens and naturalizing. This plant is extremely drought tolerant and has tall white flowers in summer. It is one of the few Yucca that produces a fleshy fruit instead of seed capsule. It is a small edible pod that resembles a banana. If the fruits are not harvested are removed they can rot and become odorous. The native species is most common in production.
