The Prickly Ash (Zanthoxylum americanum) is a deciduous thicket forming tree or shrub found in woodlands throughout Eastern North America. This plant is hard to discern other than a close examination of leaves or the rare chance that you encounter the flower. This species is often confused with wild rose due to the thorny sprawling habit. The native species is most common, but rarely in production.
